About me
My background prior to joining the professional theatre was in communication and events. I'm a great manager for any theatre or performance venue because i'm warm and well presented and I have a good head for business and figures, having run a profitable events business for over 10 years prior to being offered a job as a theatre duty manager. I understand that the needs of the arts need to be balanced with commercial demands and I like the challenge of finding a way for the two worlds to find synergy. I'm looking for more work as a theatre manager, front or back of house and any associated roles. I am also a skilled tutor, so any work mentoring and managing would be ideal too.Additional skills:
Theatre Management - I am currently undertaking a fixed-term contract as Duty Manager for the Redgrave Theatre. This includes marketing and communication, company liaison and front of house.
Communication - I have a 2:1 (hons) degree in Journalism & Broadcasting and vast commercial experience in marketing and sales, lecturing and public speaking.
Management - I have managed teams of up to 20 people in roles such as admin, practical event management and marketing.
Computer skills - I am very competent in Microsoft Office programmes, website creation and management.
Social Media - I have a good understanding and practical skills relating to free and paid social media outlets, mainly Facebook and Twitter.
Events management - Twelve years of commercial event management and wedding planning experience.
Industry awards:
UK Trade and Investment – Developing International Business 2011 – JETS accredited
Postgraduate Certificate in Events Management – IADL accredited
I am the elected chairman of the Best Practice Association for Professional Wedding & Event Planners.

Additional information:
Through my work in events, setting up performance spaces, conferences and presentations, I have skills in the set up and overseeing of technical matters relating to AV, Health & Safety and have lectured in such topics for 11 years.
I assisted my husband in the early days of his rock-music business, including the daily set-up of electric instruments, mixers and sound desks for teaching and performance purposes and still volunteer each year at its annual concerts. I have a clean CRB form for this and other voluntary work with under-18s.
I volunteered for three years as secretary to the Local Action Team, (associated with Avon & Somerset Police) which helped me to maintain my admin skills. I have been a volunteer with Girlguiding UK since 2004 and recently finished a five-year volunteer post as secretary to the Division Commissioner of Girlguiding. I also oversaw my own business admin, keeping records for 700 clients and their individual needs so I have excellent admin skills and attention to detail.
I have customer service skills, acquired through many temporary jobs in customer facing roles and through weekly face-to-face work with my own clients. Customers find me to be warm, approachable and responsive to their needs and I always aim to exceed expectations. I consistently achieve four and five star reviews on customer feedback forms.
I am a competent performer, as well as an amateur stage manager and professional theatre manager so I appreciate first-hand the practical needs of theatre users and directors. I am a member of my local Amateur Dramatics Society and was proud to be a member of ActOne Drama Society whilst at University, performing improvised and scripted comedy to paying audiences in a variety of venues and theatres.
I am chairman of the Best Practice Association for Professional Wedding & Event Planners.
My accomplishments in business include organising a PR event for London Fashion Week and training a class of novices to plan the first ever Wedding Professionals' Ball. I obtained training contracts with high-profile venues including Portsmouth FC and The Oval. This demonstrates my skills in event hosting and planning, communication, staff supervision and customer liaison.
My knowledge of health and safety issues, including fire evacuation, capacity management and space management as well as experience of implementing safety protocol and checklists, will be valuable for keeping users and the public safe during use of the theatre and auditorium.
I have experience of acting as a concierge or host during events of 10-5000 guests, whilst simultaneously managing other event staff. This included directing suppliers and hirers during visits, set-up, making and serving food and drinks, checking tickets, selling merchandise and maintaining standards of cleanliness throughout hours of operation.
I am always smartly presented and well spoken as I have always had to be an ambassador for my own company in the past and will be for your venue or theatre. Every member of staff and every event reflects on the reputation of the venue and its profitability and nobody understands that more than someone who has run a successful business.
I am flexible in my working hours on weekdays and at weekends as I have always worked whenever my job demanded. I have a car and clean driving license which means I am not reliant on public transport.
I have experience of being a keyholder for Girlguiding UK with responsibility for opening and locking up premises, so I can be trusted to do so again at your venue.
I have always held positions of responsibility, involving making instant decisions in the heat of an event/performance as well as being lead planner for many varied event formats. I also have experience of reporting operational, maintenance or safety matters to venue managers.
I love to work with people as part of a team, usually as a leader or deputy, and I have 11 years' experience of managing people, holding group evaluations, personal reviews and setting goals. I know this would be valuable to the role when supervising staff and visiting companies.
